A survey of North Korean defectors indicates that regime forces labor camp inmates to produce goods for the Chinese market. The vast majority of prisoners who participated in the survey had been arrested for attempting to flee North Korea for China. As a matter of routine, Chinese authorities send captured North Korean defectors back to North Korea.

Yu Yunfung, Chinese human rights activist, who was detained in a labor camp for two years for "disturbance of public order" and "opposing the Party and opposing socialism" plans to sue the government for illegal detention. Yu was held in the labor camps after texting a political poem to a friend.

Last week, the Chinese government reported that 27 people had died in a "terrorist attack" when a clash between ethnic minority group, Uyghurs, and the police force occurred.

Human Rights Watch urged Chinese authorities to stop the forcible relocation of Tibetans. The organization claims that Chinese authorities have relocated more than two million Tibetans in the past seven years.

According to Chinese official state media, 27 people died in Xinjiang province after police opened fire on 'knife-wielding mobs.' Official reports state that 17 people, 9 police and 8 civilians, had been killed prior to police opening fire on the crowd.
