Organization Background
The Laogai Research Foundation was founded in 1992 by former political prisoner and human rights advocate Harry Wu. Its mission is to document and expose human rights abuses related to China’s Laogai system of forced labor camps. LRF is also home to the fully renovated Laogai Museum, now located in Dupont Circle in Washington, DC. It is the first museum in the U.S. dedicated to exposing human rights abuse in China. Internships
The LRF and Laogai Museum are seeking current undergraduate/graduate students and recent graduates to intern for one term (spring/fall/summer). A background in Chinese studies, human rights, or international relations is strongly preferred. Proficiency in written and spoken Mandarin is a plus, as well as experience in the following areas:
- - event planning, museum management, database management
- - marketing, fundraising, advocacy, social media, blogging
- - historical research, archive work
- - IT, web design/management, audio/video, graphic design
