Washington, DC- September 21, 2009- From September 23-October 1, 2009, the Laogai Research Foundation (LRF) will be participating in a series of events in Hong Kong, condemning 60 years of repression under the Chinese Communist Party. Among these activities is the launch of a unique publication about China’s Laogai, or forced labor camps, entitled Laogai: The Machinery of Repression in China, published by Umbrage Editions in New York.
Executive Director Harry Wu said of the planned events, “The significance of holding our exhibition in Hong Kong on National Day is to serve as a reminder that Communist rule in China has been marred by human suffering from its beginning. On the 60th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, I can think of nothing more appropriate than to remember the true human cost of China’s one-party rule.”
